Looking for a great yoga studio in which to practice yoga, meditation or learn something new in a workshop or event in the Bellmore-Wantagh-Merrick-Seaford-East Meadow-Levittown area of Nassau County, Long Island? Check out the fabulous array of yoga classes, workshops and events that are offered at Moonflower Yoga with great yoga teachers! Our small class setting and friendly, homey yoga studio is a wonderful place where you can release stress, become more flexible and stronger, make new acquaintances and learn something new. In the descriptions below, you will find additional info on our current classes, workshops and events. You can reserve your spot in any of these available classes, workshops, or events from the “Schedule” tab above – just click on the date for the activity you wish to attend and then follow the simple registration and payment steps.

And we are also offering some great fun online workshops, including interactive cooking workshops, via Zoom.  Moonflower Yoga also has some wonderful ways for you to relax in our monthly Evening of Guided Meditation with world-renown loving kindness monk, Bhante Sujatha, as well as a monthly Yoga Nidra relaxation evening with Jackie.  Our Moonflower Yoga Book Club meets on a monthly basis online, and you can take a journey with a great book and join us for FREE for a fun book discussion.  The Moonflower Yoga Mah Jongg Club has recently returned to the schedule, and we meet monthly in person on a weekend afternoon.   The Moonflower Yoga Needle Arts Group where we crochet or knit together also meets online for FREE.

Are you new to yoga?

Newcomers are always welcome at Moonflower Yoga!  We currently have 13 weekly online BEGINNER-LEVEL YOGA OR MEDITATION classes through Zoom from which you can choose!    These great BEGINNER-LEVEL YOGA classes are available on a daily basis.  They are perfect for those who are just starting out or for those who enjoy a gentler yoga practice.   Just look for the “(B)” symbol next to the class title on the Schedule tab above to see if it the class you have selected is suitable for a beginner.

 

 

The return of in-person hybrid yoga classes under our unique Yoga Your Way! plan – The class plan to fit YOUR needs!

Moonflower Yoga offers a fabulous, unique program entitled “Yoga Your Way!” which permits a limited reopening of the studio doors for specific in-person hybrid yoga classes.

Yoga Your Way! is a great plan that offers the convenience and comfort of online Zoom classes, coupled with a limited reopening of the Moonflower Yoga studio for in-person classes.  It enables you to select great yoga or meditation classes based on what works best for YOU and your budget.   Here is more info:

With this new initiative, you will have many options on how you can enjoy a great yoga class, including the ability to attend select in-person classes:

-Do you like the convenience of online Zoom classes at home? Every class on the schedule is available via Zoom except the Tuesday night Candlelight Restorative class!  If you live out of state or away from the studio, or just feel more comfortable practicing at home in an online Zoom environment, you can still attend classes on the schedule via Zoom.  There are NO geographic limitations to attend an online Zoom yoga or meditation class.

-Would you prefer a 60-minute class instead of 30 minutes? The Yoga Your Way initiative will offer some 60-minute yoga classes.

-In a time crunch? There will also be 30-minute yoga classes on the schedule for when your time is limited.

-Do you miss in-person classes? The studio doors have reopened for some 60-minute classes on the Moonflower Yoga schedule with a new “hybrid class” program; see further details below.

 

There are 4 class categories under Yoga Your Way!:

-30-minute Zoom-only online classes (great if your time is limited or you are looking for a budget-friendly option!).

-60 minute Zoom-only online classes.

-60-minute “hybrid” yoga classes. In the hybrid yoga class, the class will be available via Zoom -AND – it will be available to a maximum of 4 individuals to attend in person at the Moonflower Yoga studio.  See additional info below on this in-person option.

-60-minute in-person only class.

 

Here is more info about the new “hybrid” classes with an in-person option …

The Moonflower Yoga studio room has been refitted so that it can accommodate a maximum of 4 yoga students in the physical studio room for an in-person yoga class.  Two students will be on the right side of the room; 2 students will be on the left side.  Simultaneously, this is an online class so that students at home can attend using Zoom.  There is a camera in the studio room to capture the instructor of the class so that the online students attending via Zoom can follow along with the instructor, just as you do currently in a Zoom class.  There is a TV in the studio room so the teacher can interact with the Zoom attendees, while simultaneously interacting with the in-person students.  Please note that if you wish to be one of the 4 people attending a hybrid class in person, there is an additional fee of $5 to attend in person.  Scroll down for further info relating to attending a hybrid class in person.

With the implementation of the new “Yoga Your Way” class system, here is a listing of the classes on the schedule with their new class designation:

Sunday:

-Beginner Yoga with Nancy at 9:45 AM – 60-minute hybrid yoga class

Monday:

-Relax and De-Stress with Guided Meditation with Rosanne at 7 PM – 30-minute Zoom-only online class. No prior meditation experience needed!

– Evening Yin Yoga Stretch with Rose at 6 PM – 30-minute Zoom-only online class.

Tuesday:

-Morning Meditation and Movement with Jessica at 9:30 AM – 30-minute Zoom-only online class.

-Chair Yoga with Nancy at 12 noon – 60-minute hybrid yoga class.

-Yoga Basics at 6 PM – 30-minute Zoom-only online class. (currently on hiatus; will return to the schedule soon)

– Candlelight Restorative yoga at 7 PM with Nancy – 60-minute in-person only class.  

 Wednesday:

-Yin Yoga Stretch with Rose at 10 AM – 30-min Zoom-only online class.

-Workshops on selected evenings: Restorative Yoga and Poetry night or Yoga Nidra (check the Schedule tab for the next date)

Thursday:

-Stretch and Flow with Nancy at 9:45 AM – 60-minute hybrid yoga class.

-Chair Yoga with Vicky at 12 noon – 30-minute Zoom-only online class.

-Yoga for Bone Health with Lynn or Vicky at 5:15 PM – 60-minute hybrid yoga class.

-Low and Slow with Singing Bowls taught by Jessica at 7 PM – 60-minute Zoom-only online class

Saturday:

-Saturday Stretch with Nancy at 930 AM – 60-minute hybrid yoga class through the end of November.  Starting in December, this class will begin at 9:00 AM and be taught by Rose in a 60-min online format.

Safety Protocols for the hybrid classes:

There are some safety protocols that have been implemented in an effort to protect students and teachers coming into the studio for the new hybrid classes:

-The studio room, as well as the office/merchandise area, has been fitted with a new HEPA filtration system to keep the air clean and disinfected for those attending the new hybrid classes.

-There will be a hand-sanitizing station to disinfect your hands when entering the studio room.

– The in-studio classes will be limited to 4 students who have registered in advance.  NO WALK INS!!

-You will need to bring your own yoga props for the in-studio class and take your props home with you when you leave. This means you will need to bring your own yoga mat, yoga blanket (if desired), yoga strap (if desired) and bolster (if desired).   If you would like to purchase any of these items, Moonflower Yoga sells new props sealed in plastic including blankets, straps, blocks, and bolsters.  We also sell great yoga mats.  Yoga blocks can be provided for class use and will be cleaned with disinfecting wipes after each class use.

Additional important info for the hybrid classes and requesting an in-person spot:

The in-person spots for the hybrid yoga classes are limited to 4 individuals.  If you wish to attend in person, please note there is a supplemental in-person fee of $5 per person payable on arrival at the Moonflower Yoga studio, which is in addition to the online class fee of $19 per person.  Please see the procedure below for reserving an in-person spot for a hybrid class.

If you wish to be one of the four individuals attending a hybrid class in person, you first need to register and pay the basic online class fee of $19 per class by purchasing the class from the Schedule tab above.   You will receive an automated confirmation of your online class registration.   After you have purchased the basic registration, please send an email to moonfloweryoga@optimum.net indicating that you would prefer to attend the class in-person.    As stated above, there is an additional fee of $5 to attend the class in person payable on your arrival at the studio.

-Confirmation of your in-person hybrid class registration:   The night before the class, you will receive an email regarding your in-person registration request.   If more than 4 people have requested the 4 available spots, there will be a lottery system for selecting 4 names to attend in person.   If you are one of the four people attending in person and have received the in-person confirmation the night before the class, you can proceed to the studio on the day of the class.  If you are not one of the four people allocated a space through the lottery system, you can attend the class online via Zoom, and the basic fee of $19 that you paid covers your online class registration.

 

Pricing:

There will be different class pricing models depending on the type of class you select.  If your budget is limited, a 30-minute Zoom class, priced at just $12, is a great option.  You can also earn a FREE 30-minute yoga class with a monthly class purchase of $100. Note: “B” = Beginner-level yoga class suitable for all fitness levels

Note: “I” – Intermediate-level yoga class; some yoga experience recommended

 

MEDITATION: Join us for one of these great classes listed below:  “Relax and De-Stress with Guided Meditation”, “Morning Movement and Meditation”, or “Candlelight Restorative”.  Also on a monthly basis, please join us for “An Evening of Guided Meditation with Bhante Sujatha” or “Yoga Nidra” with Jackie or “Evening of Gong Meditation and Relaxation” with Cathi- you’ll find info on these activities on the “Workshop” tab above.

EVENING YIN YOGA STRETCH (Rose) (30-min ONLINE yoga class):  Release muscle tension from the day in this great evening stretching class!   All levels are welcome, including beginners.  The class is taught in a yin yoga style, and you will do stretching postures on the ground so you can deeply relax into the posture with the use of props that support your body.  Yin yoga can help increase your flexibility and strength.   It is also a wonderful way to release tension from tight muscles and help you relax to promote a better night’s sleep.  Props suggested: Please have a pillow or folded blanket available for the class.  If you have a yoga strap, that would be helpful.  If you do not have a yoga strap, you can substitute a bathrobe tie, an unused men’s tie, or a large, rolled towel.  If you have a yoga block or rectangular yoga bolster, have this handy as well.   If you do not have a rectangular yoga bolster, you can substitute a large blanket folded into a rectangle or a large rectangular cushion.  A hardcover book could be substituted for a yoga block. (Mondays at 6 PM).

LOW AND SLOW WITH SINGING BOWLS (Jessica) (B) (60-minute online class): Come give yourself time and space to unwind after a long hard day in this lovely beginner-level floor yoga class! Movements are slow and mindful as you deeply stretch with the support of props to support you as you loosen tight muscles and relax. Through deep breathing and gentle postures, stress is relieved, thoughts are quieted, and the body has an opportunity to relax. It is a great way to end your day as you prepare your body and mind for a restful evening. For further relaxation, Jessica has an assortment of beautiful singing bowls and will incorporate the singing bowls into the practice. Props are also used and encouraged to allow for deeper expressions of certain poses. Join us!  (Thursdays at 7 PM).

CANDLELIGHT RESTORATIVE YOGA (Nancy) (B) (60-mins ) (60-minute in-person only class): Feeling stressed? Melt away your stress in this lovely, very relaxing class which is done while resting on the floor. After a gentle warmup on the ground, you will spend several minutes gently stretching and unwinding in restorative yoga postures with the help of props such as bolsters and yoga blocks.  Nancy, who is a Reiki Master Teacher, also provides a brief, optional Reiki treatment while you are reclining in your restorative posture. You will feel refreshed and ready for a good night’s sleep! (Tuesdays at 7 PM)

SATURDAY STRETCH (Nancy) (B) (60-minute hybrid yoga class through November; changes to a 60-min online class taught by Rose in December):   Had a stressful week? Muscle tension? Start your weekend in a positive way with this great beginner-level yoga class!  You will be guided through a series of standing and seated fundamental yoga postures that will enable you to stretch tight muscles, give you better strength, and improve flexibility and balance. For the latter portion of the class, you will be reclining on the ground on your yoga mat as you are guided into relaxation postures.  It is a great way to say goodbye to the work week and get you ready for a fabulous weekend! Props recommended: In addition to your yoga mat, please have a yoga block, a small folded blanket, and a yoga strap (or substitute a bathrobe tie for the strap). A yoga bolster is great for relaxation if you have one. (Saturdays at 9:30 AM with Nancy through the end of November; changes to Saturdays at 9 AM with Rose beginning in December)

YOGA FOR BONE HEALTH (Lynn) (B) (60-minute hybrid yoga class):   Osteoporosis causes peri-menopausal and post-menopausal women to suffer significant bone loss.  Recent studies now confirm that consistent yoga practice can actually increase bone mineral density. This great class will concentrate on 15 keys postures (standing and seated) chosen for their particular benefit in providing the weight-bearing oppositional force crucial to help improve bone health. Some of the poses will be held for up to one minute to improve strength which helps to prevent falls (and therefore fractures). There will also be focus on stretching tight stressed muscles (which means you are less likely to fall and break something) and the building of stability and agility (so that if you do start to fall you may help to catch yourself). Join us for this great sequence of postures designed to improve your physical balance, as well as your mental balance, release tension from your day, and get you ready for a relaxing evening ahead. All levels, especially beginners, are welcome. (Thursdays at 5:15 PM).

YIN YOGA STRETCH (Rose) (B)  (30-min online class): Looking for a great stretching class to release muscle tension?  Come try this lovely class with Rose – perfect for all fitness levels. In this class, taught in a yin yoga style, you will do stretching postures on the ground with the assistance of props you have in your home such as blankets, pillows, or towels to allow you to deeply relax into the posture.  If you do have a yoga strap, this is helpful.   If you do not have a yoga strap, you can substitute a bathrobe tie, an unused men’s tie, or rolled towel.  This lovely class will help you increase your flexibility and strength. It is also a wonderful way to release stress from the week and get you ready for a fabulous weekend! (Wednesday mornings at 10 AM).

YOGA BASICS (B) (30-minute online class): Join us for a great online class, designed to provide you with a deeper understanding about the basics of yoga! Yoga is a moving meditation that focuses on linking the movements of the body with the breath. This class will focus on some key poses that stretch and strengthen various parts of the body while creating a feeling on peace and calm. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned practitioner, this class will allow you to take your practice to the next level! (Tuesdays at 6 PM).  Note: This class is currently on hiatus.  It will return to the schedule soon.

CHAIR YOGA (B) (mixed class – see end of the description):    If you have difficulty moving in a regular yoga class, or if you are an office worker looking to learn some yoga poses to do while seated at your desk to relieve muscle tension and stress, then give this gentle, beginner-level chair yoga class a try! The class will consist of fundamental yoga poses done seated in a chair or with the support of a chair for those who can stand while holding a chair. You will learn poses to help with flexibility, stretching & strength building. For those who can stand, there will be balance poses using a chair for support. In all the poses, you will be guided to link your breath to movement. The class will end with quiet relaxation seated on your chair followed by a brief meditation. (Tuesdays at 12 noon with Nancy for 60 minutes available.  Also try Chair Yoga with Vicky on Thursdays at 12 noon which is a 30-minute online class.)

MORNING MOVEMENT AND MEDITATION (Jessica) (B) (30-minute online class):   Join Jessica for the return of this great class that she created for Moonflower Yoga!   Begin your day with peace, mindfulness and bliss! This gentle yoga class begins with a moving meditation which allows you to balance the body, calm the mind and awaken your spirit. Slowly stretch tight muscles, loosen stiff joints, relieve stress, increase flexibility and cultivate balance. Each posture is entered into with deep reverence and awareness, all while being mindful of the breath in this soft restorative yoga flow class.  The latter portion of the class will consist of relaxation and a brief seated meditation to bring you a sense of inner peace and get you ready for a great day ahead! (Tuesday mornings at 930 AM).

RELAX AND DE-STRESS WITH GUIDED MEDITATION (with Rosanne) (B) (30-minute online class): Come explore the wonders of meditation! Doctors all recommend meditation as a tool to help you relax, de-stress, and allow you to feel better. Meditation is available to everyone.  You will be led into a guided meditation in this lovely class which you can do from your living room while seated in a chair, or sitting on the ground, or reclining on the floor of your home, whichever is most comfortable for you. If you are doing this from the floor, you may want to have a blanket or towel nearby to use as a prop to support your body. NO previous meditation experience is needed to join us. All are welcome. (Mondays at 7 PM).

STRETCH AND FLOW (Nancy) (B) (60-minute hybrid yoga class): Stretch and Flow is a great way to start your weekday! After gentle warm-up stretches on the floor, the class will move to a flow of sun salutations to get you moving & energize you. The class also encompasses standing poses to build strength, balance and flexibility. We focus also on balance postures to improve your balance. Each class ends with some quiet relaxation postures on the ground.  You’ll feel great and ready for your day!  If you have a yoga strap, please have this available for the class.  If you do not have a yoga strap, a bathrobe tie, or an unused men’s tie, or a large, rolled towel could be substituted.  It is recommended you have a folded blanket available as well.   (Thursdays at 945 AM.)

BEGINNER YOGA (B) (Nancy) (60-minute hybrid yoga class): Beginner yoga is great for those who are new to yoga or like a more basic practice. After a gentle warm up, you learn flowing postures combining breath & movement, and fundamental beginner poses to build strength, flexibility & balance. All classes end with a relaxation pose.  If you have a yoga strap, please have this available for the class.  If you do not have a yoga strap, a bathrobe tie, or an unused men’s tie, or a large, rolled towel could be substituted.  It is recommended you have a folded blanket available.  (Sundays at 945 AM). Evening of Guided Meditation and Peacefulness with Bhante Sujatha! (online activity via Zoom)

Moonflower Yoga is happy to offer these fabulous guided meditations led by Bhante Sujatha.  Bhante teaches loving-kindness meditation to people around the globe for all those seeking the art of happiness and contentment. His approach to meditation is deep and simple, bringing core Buddhist teachings to everyone in a way that is practical and easy to understand. A joyful, radiant, funny and wildly energetic monk, Bhante will help you obtain peace that can only be found in deep silence.  Join Bhante in this lovely, guided meditation offered via Zoom and add some loving kindness and peacefulness to your life.   NO prior meditation experience is needed and can be comfortably and safely done from the warmth of your home thru Zoom.

About Bhante: Bhante Sujatha is a 30+ year Buddhist Monk, and he is singularly focused on adding more love in the world.  Bhante is originally from Sri Lanka and is the head monk / abbot of the Blue Lotus Buddhist Temple and Meditation Center in Woodstock, IL.  He offers workshops and events worldwide.

Price: $25 per person.    A portion of your proceeds go to Bhante’s “Mothers & Incubator Project” in Sri Lanka.

Reduce your stress in this lovely, relaxing workshop offered online via Zoom!

Yoga Nidra (Yogic Sleep and Deep Meditation)

Next date:    Wednesday, November 20th, starting at 8 PM. Also available on Wednesday, December 18th, starting at 8 PM.

Feeling stressed?  Come join us for this very relaxing evening from the safety and comfort of your living room or bedroom!

Yoga Nidra – known as yogic sleep – is a deep meditation used to promote physical, mental and emotional relaxation.  You will be completely supported in a reclining position as you are led through a deep guided meditation where you can set your Sankalpa (heart-felt intention).  You can do this grounding and de-stressing workshop while reclining in bed, or on your couch, or on the floor of a quiet room in your home.  NO previous yoga or meditation experience needed and all are welcome.   Please have a folded blanket, towel, or pillow handy.  An eye pillow or folded washcloth is also nice to have on hand.  If you have a favorite essential oil, such as lavender, you may wish to have this nearby as well.   All are welcome for this relaxing evening!

Price: $22 per person, per date

WAITING LIST INFO:

Our studio class sizes are small to provide individual attention, and we recommend that you reserve your class in advance. There is no size limitation for the online classes.   The hybrid classes have a size limitation of 4 people attending in person.  If a class or workshop is sold out, it will be listed in solid red font on the calendar tab, and no additional bookings will be permitted.  If the class or workshop you wish to attend is sold out, please contact us and ask to be added to the waiting list. Cancellations do occur, and if a spot opens up, we will reach out to you. Please send an email to moonfloweryoga@optimum.net with your name, phone number, and email address, and we will get in touch with you if an opening occurs to the waiting list for the class or workshop you are seeking. CORPORATE YOGA AND OFF-SITE GROUP CLASSES

When the coronavirus period has passed, we are available for local corporate yoga or group yoga classes! A Moonflower instructor can come to your nearby place of business to teach a lunchtime group yoga class. Corporate yoga in the workplace is a great way to reduce stress, relieve muscle tension from the day, and promote teamwork among the staff.
